W-Locate’s FiND and XimLoc Solutions Are Honored at Mobile Star Awards

Location-based services solution XimLoc and GPS Telematics solution FIND are recognised as leading solutions for mobile

08 January, 2015 (Singapore) – W-Locate, a location-based services and telematics specialist, is proud to announce that its flagship products, XimLoc and FIND, have been recognized as amongst the best solutions at the 2014 Mobile Star Awards™ in the Mobile GPS and Fleet-tracking category. The accolades are hosted annually by the mobile technology news and directory site MobileVillage.com. The awards were based on peer voting and W-Locate was up against a number of other vendors.

XimLoc from W-Locate is a highly scalable and customizable location-monitoring platform that has been designed from the ground up with third-party API support and compliance with GSMA’s OneAPI initiative in mind. Its unique SIM-based algorithm allows mobile operators to deploy location-based services (LBS) over their own network with minimal capital investment.

Telematics solution FIND uses GPS-based tracking to provide fleet managers with up to date information on a variety of areas including fuel consumption, driver habits, location and speed. Its flexibility has already seen it customized and successfully launched with one of the world’s largest building materials and aggregates suppliers.

“What a fantastic way to start 2015!” said Stevie Ooi, CEO of W-Locate. “Last year we announced our first tier one operator customer who launched a M2M solution and a major deployment with the Ministry of Education in China. I would like to dedicate this award to our highly dedicated and talented team – their hard work and commitment has been truly outstanding.”

The Mobile Star Awards were launched back in 2001 and each year has showcased the best products in categories covering consumer mobile apps, mobile devices, enterprise mobile software or services, technology visionaries and success stories.  The winners in each category are chosen by the readers of MobileVillage.com and its bi-weekly “Go Mobile™” email newsletter and recognized as either a Superstar, Shining Star or Rising Star.

“After 14 years, the Mobile Star Awards is still the only competition where today’s most exciting new mobile products and companies can compete against established competitors on a more level playing field,” says Mobile Star Awards director Gary Thayer. “A major part of this is because votes are cast by real users who really love the products—these are the mobile early adopters, mobile IT professionals, and tech bloggers who dominate our readership.”

“Winning a Mobile Star Award is a great accomplishment that’s recognized by the entire mobile industry,” says Mobile Village founder and CEO Jon Covington. “Mobile is the fourth great wave of computing, and there are now millions of mobile products competing for our attention. Mobile Star Award winners and nominees stand out from this crowd as the star innovators to watch and follow.”

W-Locate’s SIM-based Location Technology Deployed to Keep Chinese Children Safe

SIM-based LBS technology enables indoor and outdoor tracking and geo-fencing for improved school security

05 November, 2014 (SINGAPORE and CHINA) – Edusafety, an organization dedicated to the safety and well-being of school students in China, has selected W-Locate’s SIM-based LBS solution XimLoc to provide parents of the four million children in Guangdong Province with accurate location monitoring services. The project which is supported by the Ministry of Education China is designed to provide parents with peace of mind that their children are safely in school. Following a trial that commenced in September, full implementation of the service is set to take place by the end of November 2014.

After a comprehensive evaluation of different technologies, XimLoc was chosen by Edusafety for its superior accuracy and ability to provide consistent indoor-and-outdoor location monitoring. The SIM-based solution is designed with geo-fencing capabilities and can alert parents via SMS, App and web alert. In addition, it features an innovative SOS notification feature for emergencies. Parents and guardians can set a geo-fenced zone around a school that sends an alert if a child is not in school by a pre-determined time.

XimLoc from W-Locate is a highly scalable and customizable location-monitoring platform that has been designed from the ground up with third-party API support in mind. Its unique SIM-based algorithm allows mobile operators to deploy location-based services (LBS) over their own network with minimal capital investment. As it is a SIM-based solution, new services can be offered to any device with a SIM card, including smartphones and feature phones. XimLoc is therefore perfectly placed to enable operators to offer innovative business and consumer location services. In addition, it is based on the GSMA’s OneAPI initiative, which means tracking can take place across different networks and even across different countries.

“Child safety is of paramount importance to us,” said Chen Jun, GM of Edusafety. “We looked at a number of different technologies to decide on what solution would provide parents with peace of mind. W-Locate’s solution was a cut above the rest. What made it stand-out was its ability to provide accurate location information in both outdoor and indoor environments – ideal for schools. This is not something GPS can deliver.”

Stevie Ooi, CEO of W-Locate concluded: “Unlike a GPS device, a SIM-based LBS solution uses less battery power, so is capable of tracking someone for a much longer period of time and provide an accuracy of 6-200m. Children mean everything to parents and we are proud that XimLoc can help Edusafety protect and keep kids safe.”

M2M Evolution Coverage on XimLoc launch in China

Edusafety Partners with W-Locate to Enhance Student Safety

The latest news out of China concerns the safety of that nation’s children. Parents try to protect their children as much as possible by making sure they follow curfews and stay in designated geographical areas. The advent of smartphones and simple geo-fencing technology has made it possible for parents to monitor their children remotely. Now, Edusafety, a child safety and well-being advocate in China, has partnered with W-Locate to extend location monitoring services to approximately four million parents of children in Guandong Province.

According to a report at M2M World News, China’s Ministry of Education supports the W-Locate XimLoc product that uses SIM-based technology to accurately monitor locations. Edusafety and W-Locate have reportedly been working together for several months and have completed a trial run of the service that ended in September. Full release of the product is expected to arise by the end of November. Chen Jin, the general manager of Edusafety, said the safety group chose W-Locate’s SIM product because of its unique ability to operate inside and outside buildings.

“Child safety is of paramount importance to us,” Jun said.

W-Locate indicted that another feature of SIM tracking that GPS cannot match is its low power consumption. This makes it ideal for smartphones that may only have battery power to operate normally for a few days at most. With GPS location constantly turned on, kids’ phones may only operate for a few hours at a time. This could limit the ability for parents to locate their children and also limit children’s abilities to use their phones for essential services such as emergency calls.

XimLoc works with the GSMA OneAPI initiative that pushes for interoperability across many different types of phones and networks. Therefore, many people across several networks can potentially take advantage of the technology without having to worry about whether or not their phones will be compatible. SIM cards may be found in features phones, as well, so families without smartphones can still access the service and receive updates by way of their SIM cards.
